Sassuoli scored three unanswered goals in their 2-0 Serie A win over Genoa on Sunday.

Gianluca Pascale, Simone Pioli and Luca Toni all scored for the club, who are still only four points behind Juventus.

Piolio’s brace in the 56th minute was the first in the league for the Genoa striker.

Genoa were without their leading scorer and the captain of the defence, Alessandro Del Piero.

Sassuol have scored only once in Serie A this season, a 2-1 defeat by Inter Milan in the Champions League in December.

The win was their fifth straight away win in Serie D. The hosts were not the only team to start well, as Sassuola started well, taking the lead at the end of the first half.

In the 22nd minute, Del Pierio had a chance to open the scoring after a quick free-kick, but his shot was blocked by Genoa keeper Gianlucio Sforza.

The goal was the second of the game for Sassuolin, who have scored five goals in four games.

Sassuolo are in the top four in Serie E with two games to play.

They travel to Lazio on Sunday for their final game of the season.

Genoa are currently fifth in Serie B, with six points from two games.
